Familiar Strangers

Throughout the diaspora, millions of Armenians have spread out all over the world, adapting to new socio-cultural contexts while keeping strong relationships to their Armenian identity. With Armenians' shared rich culture, a unique community is strengthened through intangible qualities of domesticity, such as the smell of cooking, humming a tune, or a sense of humor. Within the intimacy of their homes, memories are formed, futures are planned, and hybrid identities are cultivated. Many of these intangible qualities of being Armenian are linked to stories and artifacts passed down through their own family or through the extended diasporic community. The strength in the Armenian identity does not rely on physical location- but on the stories and intangible qualities that transcend physical boundaries.

Immersive Experiences
Through augmented reality, projection mapping and exploration of innovative materials, we worked with the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative to tell the story of the Armenian journey through a series of physical, visual and sound installations.
